In British Columbia, there are several type o f Pacific salmon that spawn in the rivers and lakes. Griffin Lake, 27 kilometers west of Revelstoke, flows into the fast flowing Eagle River right on the grounds of our lodging facility. Guests can sit on benches that are set up directly in front of the salmon spawning beds of the pristine river.
The spawning season varies by specie, year, weather, water temperature and many other variables but for the most part begins aro und the middle of August and goes through until November. During that period we can view Chinook, Sockeye and Coho salmon. Our the bed and breakfast is located about a 1 minute walk from the spawning beds. Additionally, there are many spots downriver (The Eagle River) where salmon can be found completing their incredible life cycle - returning form the sea to spawn where they were born.
